Chemistry Professor Awarded Grant From National Science Foundation
Chemistry Professor Yinan Wei recently received a $450,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a study expected to generate some of the first ever data in her subject matter, which focuses on how proteins oligomerize in cell membrane, or in other words, how membrane-spanning proteins that function in units containing more than one subunit, assemble in nature.
DeWall to Appear on Discovery Channel's 'Head Games'
Psychology Associate Professor Nathan DeWall (left in photo) will showcase his expertise on the Discovery Channel's new series "Head Games," premiering this Saturday, June 3, at 10 p.m. In addition to his teaching and research, DeWall serves as a co-director of A&S Wired, the College of Arts and Sciences' residential college.
PHI 120: Introductory Logic with Bob Sandmeyer
A course which treats argumentation, formal deductive and non-formal inductive logic. The course has a dual focus. First, students will learn how to construct and evaluate formal deductive arguments. Second, students will learn how to analyze and evaluate inductive arguments. The aim of the course is to inculcate standards of good reasoning, e.g., clarity, consistency and validity. Credit is not given to students who already have credit for PHI 320.
'Global Classroom' Increases Student Opportunities for International Experience
As university graduates increasingly require international perspectives, skills and knowledge, UK is using a new program called Global Classroom Connections that allows students to use new technologies to gain international experiences independent of financial or other constraints.

As the 2011-12 academic year comes to a close let me thank you for all the incredible work, dedication and commitment you have exhibited throughout the year. Without a doubt, our faculty and staff rival those at the most prestigious institutions in the country.
Over the last year we have welcomed and educated a record-number of new students; we have successfully launched a new general education curriculum (UK Core) and a new residential college (Wired); we have made progress on shortening time-to-degree through our online and summer school initiative; we have greatly expanded our international efforts through faculty exchanges, short-courses, new education abroad programs, and our passport to the world initiative (Year of China); among many, many other successes.
Our faculty and staff have been recognized by countless national organizations and agencies, as well as by the University community. The following are just a handful of the many successes achieved this year:
